How much is car insurance in Colorado?
It depends on your driving record, ZIP code, vehicle, age, credit-based insurance score, and the coverage you choose. Rates for the same driver can vary a lot between companies, which is why comparing 14+ carriers matters.
What's the cheapest car insurance in Colorado?
The cheapest company is different for every driver. One carrier may be lowest for a clean 40-year-old and highest for a 19-year-old with a ticket. Shopping several carriers at once is the only reliable way to find yours.
Does car insurance in Colorado cover hail damage?
Yes, if you carry comprehensive coverage, which is part of a full coverage policy. Liability-only insurance doesn't pay for damage to your own car.
Is full coverage worth it?
If your car is financed or leased, your lender requires it. If you own it outright, compare the extra cost against what the car is worth and what you could afford to replace. I'll show you both numbers.
Can I get car insurance with no prior insurance?
Yes. Some carriers require a coverage history, but not all. See no prior insurance.
Can I bundle car insurance with home or renters?
Yes, and most carriers give you a multi-policy discount. I'll quote it both ways.
SR-22
How long do I need an SR-22 in Colorado?
Most Colorado drivers keep an SR-22 on file for three years. Your exact requirement depends on your violation and is listed in your DMV notice. Keep your policy active the whole time.
How much does SR-22 insurance cost in Colorado?
The filing usually carries a small one-time fee. The real cost is the policy, which depends on your record, vehicle, ZIP code, and carrier. Prices vary widely for SR-22 drivers, which is why I compare 14+ carriers.
What happens if my SR-22 lapses?
Your insurer must notify the Colorado DMV, and your license can be suspended again. If you switch carriers, the new SR-22 needs to be filed before the old policy ends.
Can I get an SR-22 if I don't own a car?
Yes. A non-owner SR-22 covers you when you drive cars you don't own and satisfies the DMV requirement. It's often the most affordable option.
How fast can you file my SR-22?
In most cases, the same day your policy starts. Your carrier files it electronically with the Colorado DMV, and I'll confirm it went through.
Can I get an SR-22 with no prior insurance?
Yes. Some carriers require prior coverage, but not all. I work with carriers that offer options for drivers starting fresh.
How do I get my SR-22 removed?
Once your required period is over, your carrier can file an SR-26 with the DMV to end the filing. Check with the DMV that it's cleared before you change anything on your policy.
Is an SR-22 the same as insurance?
No. The SR-22 is a certificate that proves you have insurance. You still need an auto or non-owner policy behind it, and that's what I shop for you.
What is a non-owner SR-22?
It's a liability policy that covers you, not a specific car, plus an SR-22 filing with the Colorado DMV. It follows you when you borrow or rent a car and satisfies your SR-22 requirement.
Who qualifies for non-owner SR-22 insurance?
Generally, drivers who don't own a vehicle and don't have regular access to one in their household. If you live with someone whose car you drive every day, most carriers will want you listed on that policy instead.
Can I get car insurance after a DUI?
Yes. Many carriers won't write drivers with a recent DUI, but some do. I know which ones and can compare them in one call.
Home insurance
How much is home insurance in Colorado?
It depends on your home's rebuild cost, roof age and material, location, wildfire and hail exposure, claims history, and deductible. Colorado is a high-hail state, so prices vary a lot between carriers. I compare them for you.
Does homeowners insurance cover hail damage in Colorado?
Most policies cover hail and wind, but many Colorado policies carry a separate wind/hail deductible, often a percentage of your dwelling coverage. Some older roofs are covered at actual cash value instead of replacement cost. I'll explain both before you buy.
What's a percentage deductible?
Instead of a flat amount like $1,000, your wind/hail deductible is a percentage of your dwelling limit. On a $400,000 dwelling limit, a 1% deductible is $4,000. Know this number before a storm, not after.
Does home insurance cover wildfire?
Standard homeowners policies generally cover fire, including wildfire. In higher-risk areas, some carriers limit what they'll write, which is why shopping several companies matters.
Does homeowners insurance cover flooding?
No. Flood is a separate policy. If you're near a creek or in a low area, ask me about flood coverage.
Can I bundle home and car insurance?
Yes. Most carriers discount both policies when you bundle. I'll quote it bundled and separately so you see the real savings.
Condo insurance
What is condo insurance?
Condo insurance, also called an HO-6 policy, covers what your HOA's master policy doesn't: the interior of your unit, your belongings, your liability, and certain assessments from the HOA.
Doesn't my HOA's insurance cover my condo?
Only part of it. Some master policies cover "bare walls" only, meaning you're responsible for floors, cabinets, fixtures, and upgrades. Others cover more. Your HOA documents tell you which, and I'll help you read them.
What is loss assessment coverage?
If a big claim exceeds the HOA's policy, or hits its deductible, the association can bill each owner. Loss assessment coverage helps pay your share. It's important in Colorado, where hail can damage a whole complex.
How much condo insurance do I need?
Enough to rebuild your unit's interior and replace your belongings, plus liability. Your HOA bylaws often set a minimum. I'll match your limits to what the master policy leaves to you.
Can I bundle condo and car insurance?
Yes, and most carriers discount both.
Renters insurance
Do I need renters insurance in Colorado?
State law doesn't require it, but many Colorado leases do. Even when it's optional, your landlord's policy covers the building, not your belongings or your liability.
What does renters insurance cover?
Your personal property, your liability if you injure someone or damage their property, and extra living expenses if a covered loss forces you out of your home.
How much is renters insurance in Colorado?
Renters insurance is one of the most affordable policies you can buy. The price depends on your coverage amount, deductible, and location, and it's often cheaper when you bundle it with your car.
Can you send proof to my landlord?
Yes. Once your policy starts, I can send proof of insurance to you or your property manager the same day.
Does renters insurance cover my roommate?
Usually not, unless they're listed on the policy. Most roommates are better off with their own policy.
Does renters insurance cover theft from my car?
Personal belongings stolen from your car are often covered by renters insurance, not car insurance. The car itself is covered by your auto policy.
